Gold thread embroidery

What is gold thread embroidery?

Kin-komashi embroidery is a luxurious decorative technique in which gold thread is wrapped around a bobbin, placed on the fabric, and then meticulously secured with silk thread to create patterns. It creates a greater thickness and three-dimensionality than regular embroidery, and shines brilliantly when it catches the light.

The gold thread embroidery used in kimonos accentuates patterns such as flowers, birds, clouds, and waves, creating a dignified and luxurious atmosphere. It is especially common in formal attire such as uchikake, furisode, and Noh costumes, adding a splendor befitting celebratory occasions.

[Sash to match]

The most common type of obi (sash) to wear with a furisode kimono is the "fukuro obi." Especially for formal occasions such as coming-of-age ceremonies and weddings, brightly colored and patterned fukuro obi are frequently used. While there are various types of obi, from traditional Nishijin-ori to modern designs, younger generations these days are also creating stylish color combinations that go beyond traditional patterns. However, since furisode kimonos are tied in decorative knots, the fukuro obi needs to be long enough (at least 4.2 meters).

Coming-of-age ceremony pre-wedding photoshoot, wedding and reception attendance, graduation ceremony, engagement ceremony, party, etc.

【age】

If you are unmarried, you can wear a furisode regardless of age. However, it is generally more common for women to wear them up to their early 30s. This is thought to be a remnant of the time when marriage in one's 20s was common, and also due to the image associated with the word "unmarried." In recent years, late marriages have become more common, and the number of unmarried women in their 30s and older has increased. Even in such cases, there is no problem with wearing a furisode. However, out of consideration for those around them, some women in their late 30s and older choose to wear a irotomesode or houmongi instead. If it is an occasion where you are the main focus, such as your coming-of-age ceremony, graduation ceremony, or a party celebrating your achievements, it is considered acceptable to wear a furisode regardless of whether you are married or unmarried.
